Omega has a storied history of producing some of the most important and legendary watches to ever be produced. Unfortunately, with such a prolific catalog of watches and ever changing tastes, some pieces fall through the cracks and don’t catch on with the public when introduced, and go mostly unnoticed by collectors years later.
This adds a unique layer to collecting, in that once unpopular models can suddenly explode in popularity when tastes in design change and their relative scarcity is discovered. Vintage Rolex has been particularly susceptible to this with models like the 1655 Explorer II, which was a considerable failure in its time.
In the late 1990s, Omega decided to try and release a watch under the “Dynamic” line for the third time, straying from the previous ergonomic design on the first two iterations in favor of a vintage styled military chronograph. The watch had a number of unique features at the time, being one of the earlier “vintage-inspired” models that seem commonplace now, with Breguet numerals, oversized pump pushers, colored lume, and bright yellow accents. These Dynamics were a callback to the WWII era Omegas delivered to the Royal Air force enclosed in a modern wrapper.
With an automatic chronograph movement, great 38mm size, and a satin finish case, the Dynamic chronograph seems like it would be a hit if it was released today. So that’s why we’re offering this one for the right sharp-eyed collector who can recognize its beauty, significance, and great value. We’re betting this watch sees a surge in popularity in the future, and for good reason.
This Omega Dynamic chronograph, reference 5240.50, is in excellent condition and comes on a like new Omega leather strap with an OEM deployant clasp. Here’s a breakdown:
Case: 38.1mm satin finished stainless steel case in great condition, showing only minor surface scratches commensurate with age. There are no dents or gouges in the case or bezel as shown.
Dial/Hands: Original dial and handset in mint condition. The dial is a matte black with an outer second counter track accented in yellow. The hour markers are printed Breguet style numerals. The left subdial is a 30 minute chronograph counter with yellow accents at the 3, 6, and 9 minute marks, a callback to time payphones which were charged in three minute intervals. The hour and minute hands are sword style with white outlines and black bases, and the running seconds hand is also white. The chronograph minute counter hand and chronograph seconds hand are both in the same yellow accenting the dial.
Caseback: Original satin finish caseback with an engraved Omega in the center. The caseback is extremely clean with a sharp, deep engraving.
Crystal: Original sapphire crystal with inner AR coating for maximum visibility. The crystal does not have any scratching, cracking, or chips.
Movement: Omega caliber 1138 automatic chronograph movement in excellent condition with all functions working as intended. The watch winds, runs, and sets time as it should, with all chronograph functions working including reset to zero. The watch keeps very good time.
Bracelet/Strap: Omega black leather strap with OEM deployant buckle.
Accessories: None. Sold as watch and bracelet only.
