The 70s and 80s gave us many unique and even zany watches, both in design and function. Most did not stand the test of time and either didn't sell when they were offered new or never picked up a cult following by collectors years later. Fortunately, a few were both useful and timeless, and as such have become sought after collector pieces that don't look out of place in modern times. The Omega Seamaster Soccer timer was one of the latter.
The Soccer Timer is a unique model that has an additional 45 minute counter on the minute totalizer portion of the chronograph to accurately time 45 minute long halves in a soccer match. Along with the unique function is a set of very vibrant and unique color combinations, with this white, red and black version as one of the most attractive and readable combinations.
Here we have an Omega Seamaster Soccer Timer chronograph, reference 145.020 with a 2771XXXX serial number dating production to the early 70’s.
This Seamaster Soccer Timer 145.020 is in excellent vintage condition.
Case: 42mm case with its original starburst brushing and very sharp polished edges. The case appears to be unpolished and shows only minor wear as shown in the photos.
Bezel: Black fixed tachymeter internal bezel with no marking or discoloration.
Dial/Hands: Original dial and handset in excellent condition. The dial shows no spotting or discoloration and is a beautiful off-white color. The red and black accents are bright and vibrant. Minute and hour hands are original black and white with patinated tritium. Running seconds hand is black, chronograph minutes and hour hands are white. The chronograph seconds hand is a deep orange. There is very minor paint "bleeding" on the numerals in the subdials but they do not appear repainted.
Caseback: Original Seamaster caseback marked 145.020 inside. The outside shows the Seamaster hippocampus with water resistance markings that are still crisp.
Crystal: Very good condition Omega acrylic crystal with only light surface swirls. Omega symbol embossed in the center.
Movement: Original Caliber 861 hand wound chronograph movement in excellent condition with the watch keeping excellent time and all functions working as they should.
Bracelet/Strap: Like new brown vintage style leather strap.
Accessories: None. Sold as watch and bracelet only.
