Tropical dials are one of the biggest things going in vintage watches and rightfully so. Whether due to a manufacturing defect, UV exposure, humid environments, or any number of other factors, the perfect storm of conditions and time gives us these beautiful and completely unique watches.
What we've found is a a great pre-moon Speedmaster that we had serviced by an Omega certified watchmaker in October and has its original dial, hand set, and bezel all intact and in excellent condition. The best part is the dial has just started to turn into its unique brown color. This offers the rare opportunity for a collector to watch their watch slowly continue to turn further tropical into a totally unique and rare piece with just the right amount of time. We're happy to help this watch find its next caretaker who is ready for a unique opportunity.
Condition is per the photos and as follows:
Case: 42mm case in very good vintage condition as shown with minor marks and nicks but no major damage. Case edges are still sharp with clean transitions from the brushed to polishes surfaces.
Bezel: Original black tachymeter bezel in excellent condition with a small nick at the 67 marker on the outer ring. Black insert is in excellent condition with no chipping or missing paint. Bezel is original and appropriate for the serial number.
Dial/Hands: Original stepped dial with complete hour markers where the lume has faded to a great even creamy patina. Dial is showing the first signs of turning “tropical” brown, showing especially on the edge of the dial step and around the subdials. The hands are original and have also have matching patina.
Caseback: Original pre-moon seamonster caseback in very good condition with crisp, deep engravings. Marked 145.022-69.
Crystal: Like new OEM Omega hesalite crystal in excellent condition. Crystal has the embossed Omega symbol in the center.
Movement: Cal. 861 movement just serviced in October 2015 and keeping outstanding time. All functions work as they should and the chronograph resets to zero. Serial number is in the 29.6 million range indicating production in 1970.
Bracelet/Strap: Like new black vintage style leather strap.
Accessories: None. Sold as watch only.
