If you’ve browsed the site, it’s pretty obvious we have a soft spot for functional vintage watches, especially chronographs. One of our favorites is the Omega Soccer timer, which was originally developed for referees of the 1970 World Cup to keep time during the matches. The colorful subdials and added 45 minute indicator on the minute recorder subdial certainly made the task a bit easier in the Mexican sun that year, and the watch has lived on with collectors as a unique and purpose-built tool chronograph.
Here we have an Omega Seamaster Soccer Timer chronograph, reference 145.016 with a 291XXXXX serial number dating production to approximately 1970.
This Seamaster Soccer Timer 145.016 is in excellent condition and ready to wear, and appears completely original.
Case: 38mm case (exc. crown) with its original concentric brushing and very sharp polished edges, especially on the chamfers of the lugs. The case appears to be unpolished and shows only minor wear as shown in the photos.
Dial/Hands: Original dial and handset in mint condition. The dial shows no spotting or discoloration and is a very clean white. The red and black accents are bright and vibrant with crisp, sharp printing. The hands are original black and white with a darker patina to the tritium. Running seconds hand is black, chronograph minutes and hour hands are white to provide contrast. The chronograph seconds hand is the original bright orange.
Caseback: Original Seamaster caseback marked 145.016 inside, with crisp engravings on the outside.
Crystal: Original acrylic crystal in good condition with minor wear. Omega symbol is still present in the center.
Movement: Original Caliber 861 hand wound chronograph movement in excellent condition with the watch keeping excellent time and all functions working as they should.
Bracelet/Strap: Original Omega 1116 bracelet with 543 end links in excellent condition. The bracelet shows very minor stretch as expected. End links have been adjusted to securely fit the case. Clasp shows minor wear. Bracelet should fit up to a 7.5” wrist.
Accessories: None. Sold as watch and bracelet only.
