The Speedmaster Professional has been popular since before the moon landing, leading to a sales boom and a large number of these watches in circulation. However, most of these watches were made in an era where watches really served a purpose, before checking your cell phone became the most popular way to tell the time. Along those lines, watches were looked at as tools rather than collectibles, with most discarding the packaging and wearing their watch hard for decades.
Now, we look at modern watches as luxury items before tools, but vintage watches still retain that purpose built feel and while the Speedmaster has gone largely unchanged, the older models are a hot commodity. So to come across one that not only has its original accessories but is an obviously very well taken care of and absolutely cherry example, well that just gets us all hot and bothered. What we've found is a 1983 Omega Speedmaster Professional in excellent original unpolished condition, along with its original boxes, manuals, and unfilled warranty booklet. Whether this matches a birth year watch search or full sets just tickle your fancy, everyone can appreciate these types of time capsules.
Condition is per the photos and as follows:
Case: 42mm case in outstanding condition. Case is unpolished with extremely sharp edges and crisp factory brushing on the case sides. There are minor marks and swirls to the polished surfaces as shown but all wear is very minor.
Bezel: Original tachymetre bezel in excellent condition with only very sparse small marks in the painted area as shown in the photos.
Dial/Hands: Original dial and hands in mint condition with beautiful even creamy patina on the hour markers and hands. There are no cracks in the hands or missing areas in the lume plots on the dial. The plots do still slightly glow when exposed to a light source.
Caseback: Original moonwatch caseback in very good condition with only minor wear.
Crystal: Like new OEM Omega hesalite crystal with no scratching, chips, cracks, or marks. Omega symbol in the center.
Movement: Caliber 861 movement in excellent condition. Movement is very clean and all functions work as they should, with the chronograph starting, stopping, and resetting to zero as expected. Movement is keeping good time. Service history is unknown.
Bracelet/Strap: Original Omega 1171/1 bracelet with all links present. The watch is sized for a 7.25" wrist on the second smallest micro-extension but will easily fit an 8" wrist.
Box/Papers/Accessories: Original inner and outer red boxes, original user manual, white Omega pad, and warranty booklet (unfilled) are all included.
