The Autavia debuted as a dashboard timer for its target audience, originally intended for timing in racing cars and planes, hence the AUTomotive AVIAtion moniker. As a dashboard timer, Jack Heuer found the layout to be less than ideal, and it was replaced by the Monte Carlo. However, in 1962, the Autavia debuted as a wrist chronograph, and is now one of the most legendary vintage watches in the world. So when Heuer unveiled their (contested) world’s first automatic chronograph movement, it only made sense that the Autavia would be one of its recipients. These early automatic Autavias have become immensely popular, with the earliest variations like the ridged marker dial variant shown here becoming more scarce. We’re proud to offer this caliber 11 powered ridged marker dial Autavia.
