Tudor was always intended to be Rolex's little brother, but that didn't stop the brand from making a number of watches too bold for Rolex into icons. The Big Block chronographs and their exotic dials, the "jumbo" date-day in stainless steel, and the classic "snowflake" submariners can all stand on their own in the world of collectible watches. Even as Tudor transitioned into being a little more independent from Rolex, starting to have their own signed cases, bracelets, etc as the brand embraced the shield logo. Before the Tudor submariner was discontinued, likely as a result of cannibalizing Rolex sales, the final 79190 was released with the amazing blue dial and bezel combination pictured here in the 1990s.
It has all the makings of the quintessential dive watch, the iconic sub shape, rotating bezel, oyster bracelet with a diving extension, a screw down crown and a sapphire crystal. At the same time it remained unique with that striking blue dial, that can appear flat in some light and a brilliant almost metallic in the sun. It's also got markers without surrounds and triangular markers at 6 and 9. It's a watch just unique enough to differentiate itself from the pack while remaining subtle enough to be on your wrist every day.
Take a look at the photos and our condition rundown:
Case: 40mm Stainless Steel case in excellent condition as pictured. Case is thick with even lugs and sharp undersides. Triplock crown is signed Rolex. B944XXX serial dates production to circa 1997.
Bezel: Original unidirectional bezel in excellent condition. Insert is excellent and free from any major marks or wear.
Dial/Hands: Original dial and hands in wonderful condition. Lume plots are all fully intact and have slightly begun to evenly fade to an off-white color.
Caseback: Original solid caseback in good condition with no major scratching or markings.
Crystal: Original sapphire crystal in excellent condition free from scratches.
Movement: Tudor-modified ETA automatic movement in great condition and working as it should. The watch keeps great time and all functions work as intended.
Bracelet/Strap: Original 9315 folded link bracelet with 380B end links and a Tudor signed clasp and diver's extension. A couple of the links have some wear to the center links from the bracelet being resized in the past as shown in the photos. The bracelet is currently sized for a 7.25" wrist but two extra links are included.
Accessories: None, sold as watch only.
