Fortis is a company with a rich history of pushing the limits of the wristwatch. The company was founded in 1912 in Switzerland, and became the first manufacturer of automatic wristwatches in 1926 using John Harwood's famous movement. Fortis was also the first to produce a water resistant wrist alarm in the mid 50s, and produced a number of colorful watches in the 60s and 70s including this Marinemaster as well as its chronograph cousin.
This Marinemaster fits right in with the ethos of the brand in the late 60s and early 70s, with its bright multi-colored decompression charts making for a beautiful, uniquely styled and functional, purpose built watch. This one has a Mark 1 dial with applied markers appropriate for its 1972 production. The dial has a wonderful patina with even fading but no loss of legibility, and an excellent condition chunky EPSA Super Compressor case with its signature internal bezel and dual cross hatched crowns.

Case: 42mm stainless steel case (50mm long) in excellent vintage condition. The case shows only light signs of surface wear with its original "sunburst" finishing on the case top, sharp edges and original cross hatched Super Compressor crowns.
Bezel: Internal bidirectional bezel operated by crown at 2 o'clock. The bezel has faded evenly to a "tropical" grey color. All text is still visible.
Dial/Hands: Original multicolor "Mark 1" dial with applied steel markers. The tritium on the markers is complete and has an even creamy patina matching the hands. The dial shows an even, attractive fading throughout that has not affected legibility or damaged any of the print on the dial.
Caseback: Original screw down EPSA Super Compressor caseback in good condition as pictured with some wear to the outer engravings.
Crystal: Domed acrylic crystal in good condition with only minor wear. There are no major/deep scratches, cracks, or chips in the crystal.
Movement: ETA based automatic movement with date. The watch is functioning as it should and keeping good time.
Bracelet/Strap: A multicolored dial-matching 22mm NATO strap is included.
Accessories: None, sold as watch only.
