The Milgauss is one of Rolex's most underrated watches despite being one of their most functional. The model debuted in 1956 as a watch made for those working in scientific fields such as research labs, power plants, and specifically CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. These facilities often housed equipment emitting strong magnetic fields which can cause havoc with mechanical watch movements. Rolex in turn developed a watch able to resist 1,000 Gauss (hence the name). The Milgauss was produced through 1980 and evolved into the once unpopular but now highly sought after reference 1019.
In 2007, Rolex revived the Milgauss, using modern technology to improve the watch's performance and making a jump aesthetically to a larger case and the very unique lightning bolt seconds hand. The Milgauss uses the caliber 3131 movement with a hairpsring made from Parachrom, Rolex's proprietary paramagnetic material, and the watch also includes a paramagnetic shield in the caseback. The Oyster case and bracelet are formed in signature 904L stainless steel.
The example we have here is a V series from 2008 in excellent condition and all original. Take a look at our photos and detailed description below.
