TAG Heuer has a habit of creating wild concepts with the Monaco, one of their most iconic models. The insane belt-driven V4 has become a haute horologie legend, and TAG wanted to continue the trend of using the Monaco as a test bed for pushing the limits of conventional watchmaking and introducing some bold concepts.
The Monaco 24, unveiled at Baselworld 2009 and released in 2011, was the next iteration of the ultimate Monaco. It featured a floating dial and movement, held in place with four shock absorbers (yes, they're real shock absorbers) visible in the transparent corners of the case, finished in iconic Gulf orange to match the Gulf colors on the dial. The case is stainless steel and titanium carbide coated and high polished unlike traditional matte PVD coatings, and the Caliber 36 keeping time inside is based on the legendary Zenith El Primero high beat automatic chronograph movement. All of these specs add up to a formidable watch that packs a lot of features inside, and it had the price tag to go along with it, as the Monaco 24 retailed for over $13k when new.
Take a look at our detailed photos and condition description below:
Case: 40.5mm titanium carbide coated stainless steel case in good condition as pictured. The watch shows typical signs of wear with minor spots of wear in the coating as pictured.
Dial/Hands: Black dial with Gulf livery blue and orange stripes and polished steel luminous hands.
Caseback: Sapphire crystal display back showing off the Caliber 36 movement and shock absorber system inside. The caseback crystal is free from any scratching or marks, and the reference and serial numbers are crisp.
Crystal: Original beveled sapphire crystal. There are some minor marks on the edge of the crystal that do not affect visibility and the crystal surface is otherwise scratch free.
Movement: Caliber 36 automatic chronograph movement based on the high beat (36,000bph) Zenith El-Primero. The movement is in excellent mechanical condition with all functions working as they should including chronograph start, stop, and reset to zero.
Bracelet/Strap: Original leather strap in good condition with plenty of life left. The adjustable original deployant clasp shows some light wear to the coating as pictured.
Accessories: Original double box set and booklets are included.
