Like so many of Rolex's iconic models, the GMT Master was born out of necessity. In the early 1950s, Rolex collaborated with Pan-Am to develop a watch for commercial air pilots. With advancements in technology and longer flight times, pilots needed to be able to track changes in time zones along their routes. While modern pilots have other instrumentation to track time changes, the GMT Master has cemented itself as an immensely popular classic.
The reference 16753 embodies the spirit of the original GMT Master with the benefits of more modern technology, like the addition of a quickset date. This two-tone variant also features a brown "nipple" marker dial with gold surrounds and dual color bezel which has been coined the "root beer' over the years, and remains a unique watch in the GMT line that will have you staring at your wrist with every wear.
Condition as follows:
Case: Excellent condition and sharp 40 mm stainless steel case with thick lugs. The gold crown is in excellent condition with a sharp coronet. The watch has a 6.3 million serial number dating to circa 1980 production.
Bezel: Original bidirectional 18kt gold bezel in very good condition with thick edges. The Root Beer bezel insert is in excellent condition as pictured, and the bezel action is smooth.
Dial/Hands: Original matte brown tritium dial and hands in excellent condition with a light patina around some of the nipple markers and date window as pictured. Date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.
Caseback: Excellent condition original steel caseback with only minor wear as shown.
Crystal: OEM Rolex acrylic crystal in excellent condition with only minor wear as shown. No cracks, chips, or significant scratches.
Movement: Caliber 3075 Rolex Automatic GMT movement with quickset date keeping excellent time. All functions work as they should. Service history is unknown.
Bracelet/Strap: Like new 20mm vintage style leather strap with SS buckle.
Accessories: None, sold as watch only.
