Vintage Omega Speedmaster Professional "Straight Writing" Ref. 145.022-69 w/ 1039 Bracelet- SOLD
History was made on July 20th, 1969 when NASA astronauts first stepped foot on the moon. And strapped to the outside of their space suits was the Omega Speedmaster, a watch synonymous with the moon landing and arguably one of the most important watches ever made.
Omega of course wanted to commemorate both mankind's achievement and their involvement in the space program. Their first commemoration of their collaboration with NASA came with adding "Professional" to the dials from the 145.012 onward when the watch was selected by the space program. The next was to commemorate the moon landing with an inscription on the caseback. Omega replaced the simple large Hippocampus and Speedmaster text with "The first watch worn the moon" boldly engraved straight across the case back, giving this model its nickname.
Take a look at the photos and our condition description below:
Case: 42mm stainless steel case in excellent condition. The case shows minimal signs of polishing and retains crisp edges with only minor surface wear as shown.
Bezel: Original dot next to 90 "DNN" B2bezel in excellent condition as pictured with only very slight surface wear and fully intact paint.
Dial/Hands: Dial is original matte black tritium in excellent condition with intact lume plots and a light patina to the hour markers. Hour and minute hands are also original tritium with a slightly darker patina. The chronograph seconds hand has been color matched and does not glow under UV light.
Caseback: Original "straight writing" moon landing stamped caseback in very good condition as pictured with nice crisp engravings and only minor paint loss. There is some surface scratching on the caseback as pictured. Marked 145.022-69 inside.
Crystal: Original Omega hesalite crystal in excellent condition as seen in the photos.
Movement: Caliber 861 manual wound chronograph movement. 32.84 million serial number dates production to circa 1973, within the correct serial range for the reference according to Moonwatch Only. The watch runs great, with all movement functions working as intended, including chronograph start, stop, and return to zero. Service history is unknown.
Bracelet/Strap: Original 1039 flat link stretch bracelet in excellent condition as pictured. The end links are unmarked and appear to be aftermarket but fit the watch very well. Bracelet is sized for a 7.75" wrist on the largest clasp extension (without factoring stretch link expansion) and stretch links are all very tight.
Accessories: None, sold as watch only.
